"BAKING WITH APPLES"

1. This contest is open to Morgan County residents only.

2. The product must be made by the individual entering the exhibit and may not be entered in any other section of the Morgan County Fair.

3. Persons may enter only one item per class.

4. Entry tags and sign up sheets will be available upon arrival.

5. The classes for entry are: 6 cookies; 1/4 (one-fourth) cake; 1/2 (one-half) loaf of bread (either quick or yeast); and 1/4 (one-fourth) pie.

6. Each entry must contain apple (fresh or canned) in the baked part of the article. Cream filled products needing to be refrigerated cannot be accepted because of a lack of refrigerator space.

7. All entries must be accompanied by the recipe.

8. All entries must be exhibited on a disposable plate or heavy cardboard.

9. Entries will be accepted Wednesday, August 4,  2010, from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. in the Wilbur Kendall Room, Morgan County Fairgrounds. Those in line at 12:30 p.m. will be accepted. NO ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER JUDGING BEGINS!

10. Open judging will begin at 1:00 p.m. Winners will be announced as the classes are judged. The order of judging will be: cookies, cakes, bread, and pies.

11. Entries will be released at the close of judging. The Grand Champion and Champion products will be kept by the sponsor of the contest. Unclaimed items will become the property of the Morgan County Fair.

12. Blue, red, or white placing ribbons will be awarded according to the quality of the entry. No premium money will be given for these placing ribbons.

13. Premiums will be awarded as follows: 

GRAND CHAMPION $100-----Chosen from the 4 Champions

Champion $ 30-----Chosen from the blue ribbon entries

Reserve Champion $ 20

Special Merit $ 10

14. The winners will NOT gain any points toward the overall Home & Family Arts Outstanding Exhibitor Award or Outstanding Extension Homemaker Award.

                                        CRITERIA FOR JUDGING THE BAKERS’ BEST "Baking with Apple" CONTEST

1. The total appearance of the product will be taken into consideration, including uniform color, even shape, and pleasant eye appeal.

2. Apple (fresh or canned) must be present in the baked part of the product, giving it a well-blended characteristic flavor which does not overwhelm the product.

3. The product should contain internal quality including moist, tender crumb, and a fine texture.
